so mr chua replied faster than i expected.
and honestly, i am very satisfied with his reply.
he is on my list of top ten people i respect most.
i really respect such a principal lah.
my gosh.
he even signed off as "paul".
not "mr chua".
i thank God for a caring principal,though he can be quite naggy at times.
but at least when there's a problem, we need not feel afraid to approach him.

went out for dinner last night with aunty irene,edina,ivana,xide,my bro and lynn.
indoor long beach at east coast.
shiok.
hahaha.ivana wanted to help me reserve a pincer.
so she said,"okay,this pincer is dilys's.anyone who eats it is a pig."
haha.
and name of the guy who was serving us is Jack.
so my aunt said,"try telling him, 'hi jack,jill is looking for you.'"
and there was a waitress whose name is Kitty.
then i think edina/my aunt said,"try going up to her and say HELLO,Kitty!"
hahaha.
and so we were looking at people's names.
hahahaha.

i went ivana's hall after service yesterday.
she went to pack her lugguage.
i think she's on the plane now.
to hongkong.
her room is quite neat.
the only bad thing is that there's no toilet in her room.
but other than that,i think it's pretty cool.

i thank God for my family :)

Dear Student

I thank you very much for the email and I admire your courage in taking up your father's advice to speak up especially on situations that you do not understand and to seek clarifications.

I saw your email on Fri night and I immediately conducted an interim investigation as I was out on official duty that Thu morning.

I learned that indeed some not positive words were used on the pupils. I also know who the person is. I will speak to the person concerned to obtain more information and advise him accordingly.

Regardless of the circumstances, I totally agree with you that the rude words that you mentioned below should not be used. In fact, I have reminded the staff at a Staff Meeting in Term 3 regarding the inappropriate use of words on pupils.

I would like to assure you that what you have learned from your parents and your teachers in Pri Sch should not be doubted. In fact, they are very right! It is that you have seen the negative demonstration of moral values in Bowen on Thu morning. In Bowen, we strongly advocate a values-based education centred on our school core values and 'respect' is one of the values.

I apologise for what you experienced that Thu morning and the confusion that it caused you to feel. Besides speaking to the teacher concerned, I will also be reminding the staff again on their need to live out the school values in general and to show respect to all, including students and to also as you very sharply pointed out, respect for our jobs or vocations.

Please do not hesitate to reply or to see me in school for any clarifications. I would be most happy to sit down to dialogue with you.Wishing you every success in the forthcoming Os,

what a day!

a phone call woke me up at 9am.
couldnt go back to sleep,so i decided to study.
finished up bio and amath.

met jojo at somerset.
we went shopping.
went far east,then wisma.
i didnt buy anything.
jo managed to buy a shirt.
it's a pretty shirt=)
i saw this yellow mickey tee that i wanted to buy.
but decided against it cos i just bought 2new tops last week.
but i'm gonna buy a new pair of shoes.
haha.i'll persuade my mum.
she buys me like,a pair of shoes almost every month.

we didnt buy anything for zihui.
so we'll give angbao.

LETTER TO MR CHUA

and here's the email i just sent...

Dear Mr Chua,

I am a student from Secondary Four.The purpose of emailing you is because i have some important questions to ask you.

Is it acceptable for teachers to use words like "stupid" and "idiot" to scold the pupils? On 21 September, the whole school was scolded by a teacher who used words like, "damn", "stupid", "fools", and "shut up". It is not the first time such a thing has happened, and upon hearing this again, my father has encouraged me to speak to you regarding this matter.

Hearing such words from the mouths of teachers has really made me doubt my primary school teachers and parents. Since young, my parents and teachers have been teaching me not to be rude. I've been taught time and again not to use such rude and demoralising words. However, hearing teachers from Bowen using words like these made me wonder, if teachers can use them, why can't I? So, are the teachers trying to send a wrong message to me, that as long as I am in authority, such words can be used?

I have never doubted the capabilities of teachers, and respect them with a great deal. However, with teachers using such words, they seem to tell us that they show respect to neither us as students, nor their jobs. It is hard for us to respect our teachers when they do not respect us as students, and their jobs.

As I walk out of school each day, thinking about what I've learnt through the day (as what you, Mr Chua have been encouraging us to do), I can't help but think that I've been taught that such rude words can be used on people.

I do believe as English and Literature teachers, they should have a wider vocabulary, and use words that aren't as demeaning while reprimanding the students. (I am referring to not just the incident that took place on Thursday.) I understand the fault did lie with the students who made noise during Reading Period. However, I believe that does not give teachers the right to use such rude words to scold us, especially when most of us were not even at fault.

My dad and I sincerely hope we will hear a satisfactory reply from the school soon. Thank you for taking time to read this letter.

Okay,so my prelim results TOTALLY sucks.
but i've really gotten into studying.
really.
after the blow i dealt with from receiving my results.
i am DETERMINED to do well for Os.
not just well.
but DAMN well.

i've put aside 1.5 hrs each day to do amath.
and in the afternoon,i'll do my sciences.
did amath and bio just now.
so darn tired now.

and i'm gonna email mr paul chua,the principal of BOWEN.
and after i email him,i'll post what i wrote here.

i've got sore eye.my left eye.
dumb right?
that's why i didnt go school.
dad says my teacher would send me home anyway,
so he didnt allow me to go.
went to see doctor and he gave me eye drops.

mum paid.haha.
it was a good buy.
since i have more sleeveless tops,
i decided i should buy more t-shirts.

i collected my chinese prelim results yesterday.
i got 61 overall.
chen lao shi said it's not bad lah.
cos amkss standard is quite high.
and he's confident most of us can get distinctions in Os.
i hope so.
it's the first time i'm on par with wn.
haha! i feel good.
i mean,her chinese is always the highest among us.
which means i improved!

but i had a really great learning experience.

they had to address me as COMMANDER dilys.

i really anjoyed the PA meetings.
